Brilliant shifting color and a hidden dragon make this handcrafted tea bowl impossible to overlook.
Its deep, rounded form is covered in a glossy oil-drop glaze that appears nearly black in subdued lighting. As the bowl is turned toward brighter light, intense bands of cobalt blue, electric turquoise, violet, and royal purple emerge from beneath the surface. Scattered bronze and antique-gold oil drops float across the walls in varying sizes, gathering more densely near the upper edge.
A warm amber-brown rim provides a natural border around the vivid interior and continues across the exterior, where additional flashes of blue, purple, green, and bronze appear beneath the dark glaze.
At the bottom, a circular area of exposed pale clay reveals a dragon carved directly into the bowl. Surrounded by a dark ring and a thin halo of iridescent color, the concealed dragon waits beneath the tea and is gradually revealed as the cup is emptied.
The contrast between its dark resting appearance and brilliant illuminated color gives this bowl two entirely different personalities—subtle from a distance and extraordinary under close examination.
