A lovely magnolia-shaped tea cup featuring an especially bold and well-developed Hundred Flower glaze.
The cup’s gently flared silhouette opens like a magnolia blossom, while broad crystalline blooms spread across both the interior and exterior. Shades of rose-copper, muted lavender, bronze and champagne-gold shimmer against a deep glossy black background, changing noticeably as the cup moves through the light.
Inside, the individual blooms join to create the appearance of one magnificent flower radiating outward from the dark central well. Fine branching lines divide each petal and reveal the natural movement of the glaze during firing. A delicate crystalline border circles the rim, providing a beautifully finished transition around the entire cup.
The pronounced floral pattern continues around the exterior, where tightly gathered blooms follow the curved magnolia form down toward the raised unglazed foot. Elegant in shape and dramatic in glaze, this is a wonderful example of two ceramic effects working together as one complete design.
