A beautiful small tea plate featuring a dramatic peony-style crystalline glaze in layers of pale celadon, deep teal-blue and glossy black. At the center, the glaze forms a striking phoenix-like image with outstretched wings, appearing to rise from the surrounding bloom.
Fine branching patterns radiate toward the rim like overlapping flower petals, while the dark center creates tremendous depth and contrast. Because the design is created through the natural movement of glaze inside the kiln, the phoenix has an organic, almost mysterious quality that changes with the angle and lighting.
